Petaling Jaya, Nov 19 : National team skipper Safiq Rahim has reminded his team-mates to not underestimate the capability of Bangladesh although the country has not established itself as a football power in Asia.

Safiq urged the players to be fully focused and committed when taking on the Bangladesh national team in an international friendly at the Shah Alam Stadium tomorrow.

"We must take the match seriously and not underestimate our opponent. Our goal is to ensure a win," said Safiq who was appointed 100Plus Ambassador at Wisma FAM.

Safiq becomes the fifth player after badminton ace Datuk Lee Chong Wei, diver Pandelela Rinong, footballers Mohd Safee Mohd Sali and Khairul Fahmi Che Mat to be appointed as ambassador by F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd. He added that a win against Bangladesh tomorrow would serve as a tonic for the national squad that face Singapore in their AFF Suzuki Cup Group B match at the Nasional Stadium in Bukit Jalil on Nov 25.

Malaysia are also scheduled to meet Laos on Nov 28 and Indonesia on Dec 1 at the same venue.

Meanwhile, F&N Beverages Marketing Sdn Bhd Corporate Affairs Manager, Cariessa Goh said the company was proud to appoint Safiq as their new ambassador following his outstanding performances when playing for the national team over the past few years.

"Safiq is an outstanding athlete with exceptional leadership qualities that has contributed to the national team's success and he is also an ideal role model for young Malaysians," she added.– BERNAMA
