— Metro

Snickers launches new campaign | Review | colourless opinions™

Posted: 09 Apr 2012 11:19 AM PDT

Popular chocolate bar brand Snickers launched You're Not You When You're Hungry campaign last Thursday (5 April 2012) at the Sports City Futsal Centre in Petaling Jaya. It was quite an enjoyable event with Harimau Malaya football team's captain Safiq Rahim, star attacking midfielder S. Kunanlan (known to me as the speedy left winger who played impressively against Arsenal), and head coach Datuk K. Rajagopal present. The hosts were Hitz.fm's JJ and Ian.

The campaign was literally kicked off when national football players scored the ball to the virtual net shown on the screen of the stage. They were missing the target until their head coach gave them some Snickers to fill their empty stomachs. Obviously staged but it was a smart and simple presentation to get the message across. I almost laughed my ass off seeing them act right in front of me.
Datuk K. Rajagopal displayed class by showing some sense of humour and not doing any hard-selling for Snickers during the interview session. "Actually when my players make a mistake, I will have them do push-ups instead," he said. He also said, "It's important for the players to have sufficient food 2-3 days before a football match in order for them to perform at their best." He was later asked to show his angry look, which he did. What a man.

The campaign is not only run in Malaysia, but in Singapore and Philippines as well, featuring a new Snickers TV commercial and an online contest. You may check out the TV commercial on the Facebook page of ColourlessOpinions.com. I thought it's quite original and hilarious but I believe it may get a little annoying if it's overplayed. They showed it thrice subsequently at the launch in different languages (BM, English and Chinese) and although the actors are different, they're still the exact same commercial. The grand prize winner of the online contest will get a pair of invitation to catch an European Football Championship 2012 match in Poland. All the participants have to do is upload their best hungry faces on the Facebook contest application of Snickers Malaysia.

The launch didn't end there. There was also a little futsal game which some of the Nuffnang bloggers including myself joined. Kunanlan and Safiq each led a team and we were on the star winger's side. There was a made-up rule that we have to smile throughout the game (for the media's cameras, duh) otherwise a free-kick would be given to the opposing team. It was quite fun but I was a little disappointed that Kunanlan refused to play more seriously. He made quite a few errors, including a failed pass to me when I tried to play a one-two with him. Although we lost by 2-0 in the end, we still got a hamper of Snickers. The prize was Asian-ly deceiving. The centre of the hamper was empty with cardboards holding its generous shape.

The event was brought to its closure with a penalty kick successfully scored by Datuk K. Rajagopal with the host JJ in the goal. I'm still curious why the Harimau Malaya head coach pointed at me and did the smelly hand gesture when we were waiting to have the photograph below taken. Was my odor really that bad? Or does he really despise Arsenal that much? I did sweat a lot though so it was most likely about my odor.

Malaysia Football News: Safiq Rahim told to improve by Selangor ...

Posted: 01 Jan 2012 06:20 PM PST

Malaysian national team captain Safiq Rahim has been told to buck up by Selangor coach Irfan Bakti Abu Salim for the new Super League season.

Irfan Bakti is unhappy with Safiq's performance in pre-season matches and the veteran coach is even considering resting the midfielder.

"Safiq is an excellent distributor of the ball but he must show his willingness to surge forward and also help out in defence," said Irfan Bakti.

"I want more from Safiq this season. He must impose himself in the penalty box. I will monitor his progress before deciding."

Safiq failed to make an impression last season and was criticised for his half-hearted performances.

The 24-year-old was at first hesitant to renew his contract after his three-year term expired in November but finally agreed to a new deal.

Irfan is not afraid of resting Safiq as he has other options -- among them national Under-23 player K. Gurusamy, Azidan Sarudin, Bunyamin Umar, Fitri Shazwan Raduwan, Solihin Kanasian Abdullah, Fazilidin Khalid and Adib Aizuddin Latif.

Safiq said he would not mind if he was dropped from the first team.

"No one is indispensable. If the coach is unhappy then I must try to improve to earn first team action.

"There are no stars in the Selangor team and I have realised that I need to work hard," said Safiq.

Selangor are looking to make a strong comeback in the upcoming season after a poor display in the last campaign.

The Selangor FA wants its team, under manager Datuk Mokhtar Ahmad, to win at least one title this season.

But the high expectations set by the association could well put unnecessary pressure on the team and Irfan.

Selangor's main target this season is the Malaysia Cup, a title which they have not won since 2005.

The First Malaysian To Play In European League | Muhamad Asyraaf

Posted: 22 May 2012 03:45 PM PDT

Nazmi Faiz Mansor, the youngest Malaysian football player who previously played with Young Tigers A (Harimau Muda A) has landed a three-year contract with Portuguese Primeira Liga club Beira Mar

Carving his name as the first player to be successful to play in the European league, Nazmi Faiz Mansor sure did create the Malaysian football history.

He's just the same age as I am (we're 18 by the end of August) but he has successfully passed the trials. In fact, he didn't take the SPM examinations the same date others were having; went for a football match at Indonesia.

Malaysia did send some senior players such as Safee Sali and Safiq Rahim, but none has passed the trials. Being able to play in the European league at such a young age is definitely a 'plus' for him.

"Nazmi has signed a three-year contract to play for Beira Mar's first team. I cannot reveal more," said Guimaraes when the press contacted him.

Nazmi's signing means he will no longer play with the Young Tigers A in the Singapore League though he will continue to turn out for the national Under-22 team.

The talented midfielder will link up with his national teammates in Hungary this week where the national juniors are undertaking a European tour in preparation for the AFC Under-22 Championship qualifiers in Myanmar next month.
